BOOKS & WEBSITES:

I have read so many books regarding the Art of Detoxification, Raw Food, Veganism, Vegetarianism and such.  I have watched countless  youtube videos, browsed numerous websites and out of the masses, only a few made an impact.   Many people who are getting turned in to the idea of Going Vegan are asking me what to read or watch.   So, I thought this would be the ideal platform to share my favorites!

BOOKS:
The Kind Diet, by Alicia Silverstone
Forks Over Knives, by Gene Stone (Editor) , T. Colin Campbell (Foreword by) , Caldwell Esselstyn (Foreword by).
Crazy Sexy Diet by Kris Carr.

If I had to recommend only one of the above books to all of my readers, it would be Forks Over Knives.  The content is conveyed in a simple manner and there are a lot of fab recipes in the back of the book.

And now the film, which, according to its website, ”examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting animal-based and processed foods,” can claim another celebrity convert: Dancing With the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba.

The dancing pro recently explained that she and her fiance, Jesse Sloan, had made the leap to a vegetarian (although not vegan) diet. ”We saw that amazing documentary ‘Forks Over Knives’ and that cleared everything up for us. Every Sunday we’re going to the farmers market now, getting our fresh fruits and veggies. It’s just two weeks, but we feel much better. I love animals. I don’t want to eat them,” said Inaba, who is mom to four rescue cats and would love to adopt more.

And luckily for Inaba, she’s marrying a good cook. Her future hubby makes “amazing vegetarian meals for me,” she said.

Sounds like the foundation for a wonderful marriage! And who knows? Maybe veganism is in the future for the happy couple.

The Kind Diet is the biggest 'education' in respect to why we shouldn't be eating meat and dairy.  The Kind Diet is a chalk full of education - I had no idea what was happening via the dairy industry or the extent of the horror involved in factory farming.  Alicia provides the best education in one sitting for all of us.  What I do love about Alicia's book is she divides it into Chapters such as 'Flirting' & 'Superhero' - you can choose whether you just want to 'flirt' with being Vegan.  I think this applies to the majority of people I know.  If you are not quite ready to make the leap yet want to try it out - you can 'flirt' with fruits & veggies.  How fun is that!  Everyone loves a flirt!  If, however, you are ready become a Vegan Superhero - she shows you the steps in order to make that happen.

Finally, Crazy Sexy Diet by Kris Carr.  While I find this book a bit overwhelming in respect to the load of information on each & every page, if you really want to change your life/health around, this is your read.  I think Kris dives into the world of Detoxification & the healing aspects of Raw Food more accurately than any other book that I have read to date.  Kris's story of healing from Stage 4 Incurable Cancer is pretty mind-blowing and inspirational.   She went against the grain and came out ALIVE.

I am a visual person so the Websites/Blogs are more 'my thing' than even reading is.

WEBSITES/BLOGS/YOUTUBE:

Eco Vegan Gal has both a website {ecovegangal.com} & a youtube channel.  I would encourage you to check out both.  Whitney Lauritsen is beyond talented and brings you the latest in healthy vegan options as it pertains to food, clothing, environment, etc.  I find her so relatable & she responds promptly to her readers questions & ideas.  Whitney also has a channel on youtube 'What a Vegan Eats' and I love to browse this channel when I am stuck w/ how to expand my recipes & palette.

Oh She Glows.com   If you are a new Vegan or even 'flirting' with the idea - as Alicia would say - this is the website for you.  Angela Liddon's blog is a healthy living vegan blog that chronicles her life.  I find her story so beyond motivating in respect to following your passion....and the money/career will follow after.  The photography is superb and the recipes jump off the page into your taste buds.  Angela has a humorous delivery and a husband who seems to enjoy the Vegan fare as much as she does.  Check it out!

Susie Castillo.net  Susie is really talented in respect to her career - Actress, Model &  Author.   What I love most about Susie's website though is her 'blogs' section.  She has amazing blogs regarding why eating a plant based diet is really the only way to go...if you want to get or remain healthy that is.  When I was having a really hard time giving up dairy, Susie was the first person I thought of to go to for help.  She suggested I read this one particular blog of hers {Milk: It Does a Body Bad}.   I consider her blogs 'must reads' when I want to gain further education.  I also just think she has a way with words that I am able to easily relate to.

Dara Dubinet - YouTube.com  Dara is a Raw Food Celebrity Chef and I consider her a friend.  She is so lovable, vibrant and kind.  She reaches her viewers on a level that most do not.  She is very interactive, get's involved in your life if you want her to and makes you realize that raw food is not only healing & healthy but delicious!

Earthlings.  Food Matters & Food Inc. are 'Disney movies' as Ellen Degeneres said, compared to Earthlings.  Earthlings is the most heart breaking & horrifying peak into the reality of the meat on your plate.  What is really taking place at factory farms that we - for a number of reasons - turn a blind eye to.  I would encourage everyone to watch this film regardless of how hard it is, and challenge you to stop eating meat and dairy.   How someone can eat meat after knowing the truth is beyond my scope of belief.

So those are my favorites & 'go to' sites as it pertains to health & wellness!!!

Kelly Lynn
